Posted on: August 20, 2011

Some dog carrier designs which are available include dog crates, dog strollers, dog backpack, and designer dog carriers. Dog owners should select what type is suitable for their dogs depending on its breed, size, and habits. Even though many features are available in most dog carriers, it is better to look inside and outside and make certain they are in good shape before purchasing.

Another point to look for in a dog carrier is whether it is equipped with a safety snap. Usually dogs try to jump out when they are in carriers. Clipping a safety snap to the dog's collar prevents them from jumping out. Therefore, every dog carrier should have a safety snap. This feature should be looked at in the carrier and whether it is strong enough to keep the dog in one place.

The dog carrier should have enough ventilation as well. Most carriers have ventilation facilities in the front side as well as the rear. Some carriers comprise of roof ventilation as well. In whichever way, air circulation in the carrier should be adequate for the dogs to be in comfort.  In addition, the interior of the dog carrier should be arranged in such a way to make it easy to clean.

The spacious dog carrier comprises of storage compartments as well.   Make sure whether storage pockets or compartments are available in the selected dog carrier. These spaces are immensely helpful to have essentials for the dog separated from other items. If needed, the dog carrier equipped with wheels is also available these days. This type is easier to handle than others.

The size of a dog carrier is highly important to keep pet dogs in comfort. For dogs weighing about 8 pounds a small one can be used while a dog around 15 pounds in weight can be kept in a medium dog carrier. There are large dog carriers that can carry large dogs that weigh over 30 pounds.

If a dog weighs more than 15 pounds, it cannot be carried in a dog backpack. In such cases, a larger suitcase type carrier is suitable. For dogs that weigh less than 7 pounds, there are many fashionable dog carries available now. They can be carried in backpacks and showcased at exhibitions in adorable styles. When selecting a dog carrier, remember not to buy too large or too small a dog carrier, the selected one should be comfortable enough for the dog to stretch and snuggle.
